Mandya, Mar 2: Kannada actress Sumalatha, widow of later actor Ambareesh, has lashed out at Karnataka chief minister H D Kumarasway for questioning the contribution of her dead husband.
Sumalatha, who is an aspirant of Congress ticket from Mandya constituency for upcoming Lok Sabha polls, continued her tour of Mandya district and on Friday addressed supporters of Ambareesh, many of them Congress workers.
She said “in every nook and corner” of the district is aware of what Ambareesh did to develop the district and there are several community centres and temples that stand testimony to his deeds.
“Despite these glaring testimonies to my husband’s achievements and good deeds, Ambareesh’s opponents are criticizing him saying he did nothing for Mandya district,” Sumalatha said.
Making a veiled reference to Kumaraswamy’s criticism, Sumalatha said “people will teach a lesson to those who are making false accusation against Ambareesh”.
“Ambareesh worked for the betterment of Mandya district,” she said. “He never discriminated between people on the basis of their allegiance to political parties. His works were apolitical and known to all. He utilized 100% of MP funds. I have decided to enter politics only to continue the good works of my husband.”
Sumalatha reiterated her stand that she will contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls only from Mandya constituency. “I have decided to contest polls only to continue the cordial relationship our family has had with the people of Mandya. I don’t have an ulterior motive to enjoy power or make money.”
