Bengaluru, Oct 12: Three months after he was forced to tender apology for exposing the ‘suitcase culture’ of Janata Dal (Secular), Prajwal Revanna, son of senior JD(S) leader H D Revanna has raised voice against the “bucket culture” (sycophancy) in the party.

The semi-rebel grandson of former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has also indirectly expressed his desire to contest from Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly constituency in Bengaluru. While addressing a workers meeting in Rajarajeshwarinagar recently, he said that his adversaries wanted to weaken his power, as they feared that he would put a stop to corrupt practices in the party.

“Some people, who feel insecure by my political growth, feared that I would put a stop to the bucket culture in the party. They know that I will not condone corruption or illegalities in the party. So, they systematically went about weakening my power, and they succeeded in doing so,” Prajwal said.

Prajwal was referring to same speech that had got him in trouble on July 7. “A huge controversy erupted after only a part of the speech was highlighted. My adversaries wanted to taint my reputation, which I had built over a period of seven years,” he added.

Meanwhile, Deve Gowda on Wednesday said that his party would intensify door-to-door campaigning, as there were indications that the Assembly polls would be advanced to January, 2018.

“As the SSLC exams will be held in March, there are indications that the election would be held in January itself.”He said that his party was all set to give a tough contest to both the BJP and the Congress, which will be launching massive campaigns next month. The JD(S), which as assured tickets to 33 sitting MLAs, on Wednesday guaranteed tickets to 40 other aspirants, including H Vishwanath.

Mangaluru, Sept 24: A blanket of gloom descended over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi as heavy rains battered the coastal Karnataka districts on Tuesday. Substantial rainfall has been drenching the region since Monday, intensifying as the day progressed.

In Dakshina Kannada, torrential downpours began early Tuesday, followed by overcast skies and humid conditions.

The showers persisted intermittently through the afternoon, with areas like Beltangady experiencing moderate rainfall, while Puttur and Bellare bore the brunt of heavier storms.

Overnight showers were reported in Bantwal, and Mangaluru city, along with its surrounding rural areas, witnessed a steady increase in rainfall, peaking by the evening.

After a brief respite, the return of intense rainfall has brought a welcome drop in temperatures. In Udupi, Karkala, Udupi city, Kundapur, and Hebri taluks all faced substantial rains throughout the day, continuing from late Sunday night.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the coastal districts, predicting more heavy rainfall in the coming hours.

A yellow alert has been placed for Wednesday, signaling the likelihood of additional downpours. Fishermen have been cautioned to remain vigilant, as the possibility of strong winds looms over the coastal waters.
