Mangalore, July 1: Two persons were arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 12-year-old Dalit girl.
The arrested are Manoj Shetty (33), an auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Sunkadakatte and his friend Dinesh Amin (22), a resident of Padu Perav at Chavandypalke in Bajpe.
The duo had allegedly raped Arpitha, resident of Kompdavu village in Mangalore Taluk at Kajepadavu Kolambe village.
The incident, which took place last week, came to light very lately as the victim initially hesitated to reveal it to her parents.
It is said that Shetty dragged the girl into his auto-rickshaw, while she was walking towards her school, and took her to his house on June 24. He also invited his friend Dinesh to the house.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim's mother at Bajpe police station, both Shetty and his friend raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to her parents.
The girl was in shock and refused to go to school after the incident. However, on Wednesday she finally disclosed the incident to her mother.
A case under Criminal restraint, Rape along SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities act had been registered in Bajpe Police Station.
