Udupi, Dec 3: District Sessions Court has acquitted two persons in two separate cases pertaining to naxalite movements in the region.
Nanda Kumar and Devendrappa are the two who have been acquitted by the Court.
Nanda Kumar was facing charges of barging into the residence of one Bhoja Shetty, resident of Seethanadi Balebbi village in Karkala taluk, while Devendrappa was facing charges with Nanda Kumar in the same case and also the charges of trying to evoke rebellion by distributing Maoist literature and also possessing illegal weapon, in Keregundi area.
In 2006, Nanda Kumar, Devendrappa and others had visited the house of Bhoja Shetty and had summoned him to come out of the house. But, when raged Bhoja Shetty came out with weapon in hand, the frightened gang of naxalites had fled the scene. Mr Shetty had filed a complaint with the police.
On May 15, 2008, the naxalites gunned down Bhoja Shetty.
On September 20, 2007, Devendrappa was arrested by the cops for possessing weapons illegally and fueling the sentiments of the people to start rebellion against the government. He was found distributing literature supporting the naxalite movements.
Though the two have been acquitted, they will continue to be in judicial custody because there are four cases each pending against the two.
