Bengaluru, Oct 1: Karnataka Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader today thanked President Ram Nath Kovind for his assent to State Government's 'Good Samaritan and Medical Professional (Protection and Regulation during emergency situation) Bill, 2016.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of ‘International Day for Elderly People’ organised by Delhi-based 'Eldercare' organisation here on Monday, he said, “I am gratified that President gave assent to this bill and this is a law.”
“This unique law will help people who help accident victims who call for help but do not get it by passersby on the road,” he added.
This unique law was moved by Karnataka for the first time in the country that will give immunity to those help accident victims from any official action, including police case.
Mr Khader said the Bill mooted by him and taken forward by the then Health Minister Ramesh Kumar, was introduced, inspired by his own experiences when he had tried to help accident victims on the highways or elsewhere who were being ignored by the passersby due to fear of Police harassment or other reasons.
