Sharjah, Dec 22: The siblings and uncles of a man who killed his mother after suspecting her of practicing sorcery have pardoned him. They submitted a waiver in writing to this effect at the Sharjah Shariah Court and said they did not want blood money.
The defendant's lawyer has submitted all the necessary documents needed for the court to issue a pardon. The main line of defence was that the defendant was mentally ill and emotionally disturbed. A report issued by Al Amal Hospital said the defendant is "irresponsible" as he is psychotic. He also has a speech disorder.
The medical committee conducted several tests after the occurrence of the crime - in August and November this year. Also, the accused had been admitted to Al Amal Hospital last year for mental illness.
It was also mentioned that the patient was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Denmark in 2010 and was diagnosed with "acute psychosis". However, after some time, he refused to continue treatment.
During the police and public prosecution interrogation, he confessed that he killed his mother, a Danish citizen of Lebanese origin. He had slit his mother's throat twice and cut her tongue out.
He lived with his mother in Al Nakhla Tower in Al Mamzar area.
