Mangalore, Feb 17: After six-year long wait the affected families of Ulaibettu school bus tragedy have received the compensation of Rs 5.5 lakhs released by the Central Government.

The Ulaibettu school bus tragedy claimed 11 lives including that of 7 children on August 14, 2008.
The school bus of Tenkulipadi Primary School had rolled into the Phalguni river while taking children to the school for the preparations to be made for Independence Day.
Soon after the mishap, the government had announced a total compensation of Rs 11.5 lakhs at the rate of Rs one lakh per family of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Sources reveal that though the funds had been released the same had lapsed as it could not be handed over to the families concerned for want of suitable documents.
Students of Balmy School namely, Ayesha Suhana (5), Sambrina (10), Mohammed Hafiz (8), Mushir (4), Fathimatul Mushina (7), Haseena (7) and Afrul Rahiman (7) had died in the accident.
