Mangalore, Feb 9: In spite of the continued effort by the communal forces to intensify the unrest in Ullal region, the coastal town has bounced back to normalcy.
Prohibitory orders have been temporarily lifted from 10 am to 6 pm, to facilitate the local residents to get access to essential commodities. However, as part of precautionary measures, the prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be effective throughout the night.
In an apparent attempt to reignite unrest, two motorbike-borne miscreants had pelted stones at a Masjid in Konaje in the wee hours of Saturday. The window glass panes of the Salam Masjid have been broken due to the attack. When the people, who had slept inside the Masjid came out following the noise, the miscreants fled the scene.
However, the chief cleric and president of the Masjid committee urged the people not to be provoked by the incident. “This is a deliberate attempt by trouble-mongers to provoke us. We should not fulfill their desire. We should maintain peace and try our best to restore peace in the region,” said the Imam of the Masjid after Fajr prayers.
On Saturday shops, business establishments and private offices were opened early in the morning in Thokkottu while buses were plying on all routes of the Ullal.
No new case of stones pelting or any other untoward incidents were reported after the minor attack on Masjid.
