Dec 8: In August, he criticised the BJP-led Maharashtra government for the way it was implementing the farm loan waiver scheme.
Maharashtra BJP MP Nana Patole on Friday said he has resigned from the party and the Lok Sabha.
In August, Mr. Patole criticised the BJP-led Maharashtra government for the way it was implementing the farm loan waiver scheme. He had also claimed that it was insensitive to farmers’ problems.
Mr. Patole wrested the Bhandara-Gondia Lok Sabha seat from former Union Minister for Civil Aviation and senior NCP leader Praful Patel in the 2014 general election. But the growing camaraderie between Mr. Patel and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has brought insecurities to the fore.
Mr. Patole has been sulking for a while, especially after being told to pipe down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s meeting with MPs from the State.
According to sources, Mr. Patole had questioned the decision to set up an independent OBC Ministry, which apparently didn’t go down well with Mr. Modi.
