Lucknow, May 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has confirmed sexual assault charge against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Unnao gang-rape case.
The CBI probe also revealed that the Uttar Pradesh police tried to save Kuldeep Singh Sengar and other accused by not naming them in the FIR and chargesheet, a leading newspaper report said.
The probe revealed that the girl was raped on June 4 by the MLA after she was brought to his house by Shashi Singh on the pretext of providing her a job. Between June 4 and June 10, the girl didn't speak as she had been threatened.
On April 13-14, the Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested Sengar in connection with the alleged rape of 17-year-old-girl in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district.
Woman Shashi Singh, who is accused of taking the girl to the legislator was also arrested.
The UP government had handed over the case to the CBI following an uproar over the alleged effort by the Unnao police to save the BJP MLA.
