New York, Sep 8: American tennis star Serena Williams will look to clinch her 24th Grand Slam title while taking on Naomi Osaka of Japan in the final of the ongoing US Open at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday.

The 36-year-old, who had defeated Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 6-0 in their semi-final clash, stands a golden chance to equal Australian legend Margaret Court's haul of 24 Grand Slam titles.

A win in the final will also register her as the holder of the highest number of US Open singles titles. She is currently tied with compatriot Christine Evert on 6.

Osaka, on the other hand, has become the first ever Japanese female players to make it to the final of a Grand Slam event. She will now be bidding to become the first player from Japan to ever win a major title.

Heading into the clash, it is the Japanese player who holds a 100 per cent winning record against Williams. Osaka had defeated the twenty-time Grand Slam Champion 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the 2018 Miami Open, which was their only previous meeting.

In the men's singles event, Serbian player Novak Djokovic will be crossing swords with world number three Juan Martin del Potro to clinch his third US Open title.
