Kasaragod, Apr 1: The day-long strike spearheaded by trade union bodies in protest against the steep hike in insurance premium crippled normal life in the district on Friday.

Barring Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses, all modes of public transport vehicles kept off the road.

The pro-BJP Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) workers abstained from the protest.

The strike on the last day of the financial year crippled the movement of the general public, traders and office-goers hailing from the interior and hilly pockets of the district.

However, private vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, plied without any hindrance.

Attendance not affected

The strike did not impact attendance in the District Collectorate, other government offices and banks.

The agitating trade union activists took out a protest march in Kasaragod and Kanhangad earlier in the day.
