Bengaluru, Jan 3: Congress leader and Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza today condemned the Union Cabinet granting accord for merger of Vijaya Bank with Bank of Boroda along with the Dena Bank, saying that the decision would seriously affect farmers small traders in Karnataka and South India.
He said Vijaya Bank set a benchmark in extending agriculture and lendings to MSME sector and had been most friendly to farmers as well as small businesspersons in the state and across the country.
The Bengaluru headquartered PSU lender was now being merged with BOB and Dena Bank with ‘vested interest’ by union Finance Ministry and the politicians of BJP ruled states who wanted to take away the credit and good performance at the ground level by Vijaya Bank.
‘’People of Dakshina Kannada, where this bank was born, people of South India, Vijaya Bank will remain in their minds for ever for its services. But the union government is imposing its decisions against the people of this region,’’ he charged.
