Mangalore, Jan 6: Action Committee Against Mangalore - Hassan - Mysore - Solur Gas Pipeline Project will hold a protest rally in Kaikamba on January 7.
Addressing the media persons on Monday Krishna Prasad Rai of the committee said that farmers of six villages have formed an action committee to oppose Mangalore - Hassan - Mysore - Solur Gas Pipeline Project by HPCL.
The project is a threat to farmers and committee, he said.
Earlier, petrol and diesel pipelines were laid in same area and now again gas pipelines have bought a threat to farmers in every place. Compensations are decided as per the government price and 10 per-cent of land value is paid for the land owner. Whereas, same land cannot be sold or used for agriculture purpose nor bank will sanction loans for it. Companies mention the pipeline routes on same land documents and now land is of no use, he briefed.
Mr Rai said already 66ft width area is being acquired for gas pipeline project and now again officials demanding for additional of 18 ft width space in every places.
“It is a hazardous task and threat to mankind and environment here. Government has to arrange a separate zone for these three petro chemical pipelines. So that there will not be any threat of fire and leakage,” he opined.
“If the government gives us the market value for our land, then we are ready to sell our land. But there is no provision under the right of land acquisition act-1962. It needs to be amended with the help of elected representatives,” he said.
