Lucknow, May 27: Hinting that she’s not ready for any compromises seat sharing, BSP supremo Mayawati has warned the non-NDA parties that her party would prefer to go alone in 2019 Lok Sabha polls if alliance aspirants hesitate to give respectable number of seats.

Addressing the party’s national executive meeting, Mayawati said though talks on alliance with parties in UP and other states were on, workers should be ready for any situation. “The talks for coalition are on but the cadres should be prepared to keep the party flag high in all situations,” she said.

Referring to alliance with arch rival Samajwadi Party, she said, “Time had come to oust BJP in national interest.” Giving strong indications that she is in no mood to let go of the party’s control in her lifetime, Mayawati said “when the party president will not be able to travel ahead in life due to age, he/she will don the role of national convener who would appoint the national president”.

She told workers that some selfish and opportunist leaders were trying to promote their family members in the party. “My younger brother, Anand Kumar, who held the position of vice-president, offered to step down in the interest of the Dalit movement and to serve as an ordinary worker,” she added.

Mayawati also effected an organisational rejig by appointing RS Kushwaha as the new UP unit president replacing Ram Achal Rajbhar who was elevated as national general secretary. Kushwaha, who has been with BSP since 2002, had contested against UPA chief Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli.

Udupi: Six junior artists from the prequel of Kannada blockbuster film ‘Kantara’ were injured, when the bus they were travelling in overturned in the district, police said on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred near Jadkal on Sunday night when the mini-bus carrying the crew of the film overturned.

“The incident happened while they were returning to Kollur after completing the shoot at Mudoor in Jadkal. The mini-bus was carrying 20 junior artistes when it met with the accident,” a police officer said.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Jadkal and Kundapur for treatment, they said.

The Kollur police are investigating the matter.

"The news making rounds is completely false. The Kantara: Chapter 1 team began shooting at 06:00 AM today, and everything is proceeding as normal. A minor accident occurred 20 kilometres away from the shooting location, involving a local bus carrying some members of the Kantara team. However, no injuries were reported," a source close to the production said.
