“12 legislators, including myself, will join the Congress party soon,” said Mr Patil, replying to a query by media persons in Kalaburgi on Tuesday.

He said that seven rebel JD(S) legislators would also switch over to the Congress.

Mr Patil said he had discussed the issue with Digvijaya Singh, who was earlier the AICC general secretary in charge of the state.

“The party’s incharge has changed. I will again talk to the new incharge, K C Venugopal, before joining the party,” he added.

Mr Patil, however, opposed the State government’s Patala Gange project aimed at drilling earth deeper into the magma layer for water to meet drinking water requirements in arid regions.
