Mysuru, Mar 12: A woman from the city has committed suicide holding her son-in-law and his parents responsible for her death.
Rajeshwari, 52, consumed toxic liquid early on Thursday. She died at a hospital later in the day. Quoting her suicide note, police said the woman has accused her son-in-law Ravikumar and his parents -- Govindappa and Gowramma -- responsible for driving her to take the extreme step.
B S Prashanth, inspector of Krishnaraja police station where a case against Ravikumar is registered for abetting suicide and harassment, said Rajeshwari had married off her daughter Sowmyashree to Ravikumar of Algodu village in Srirangapatna taluk a year ago. At the time of the wedding, Ravikumar had allegedly taken dowry. The family looked after Sowmyashree well for the first three-four months, after which they allegedly started harassing her for money so Ravikumar could buy an autorickshaw.
Besides harassing Sowmyashree for trivial reasons, the family kept sending her to her mother's house near Agrahara. Unable to bear the torture, Sowmyashree moved court, which directed Ravikumar to look after his wife at his home.
According to the suicide note, Ravikumar has urged his wife and mother in-law to either pay him money or sign the divorce papers.
Disturbed at the development, Rajeshwari consumed poison early on Thursday. Police, however, claim that the reason for her decision to end her life is not known. "But in her suicide note, she has held the trio responsible for her death," they added.
Raghunandan, son of Rajeshwari, has lodged a complaint against Ravi and his parents who are on the run.
