Mangalore, Jan 22: Youth Red Cross Society, a unit of the district branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was inaugurated at a programme organised at Ravindra Kala Bhavan at University College here on Wednesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the unit, vice-chairman of IRCS Dakshina Kannada branch Ronald Fernandes said that blood donation being just one among the objectives of the organisation, the district unit also conducted health awareness programmes and helped in disaster management and first-aid training, among other things.
The main objective of the organisation is selfless service towards those in need, he said, citing examples of the organisation's service in the aftermath of the Perne gas tanker tragedy and Bajpe landslide tragedy.
Managing committee member of the unit Santhosh Peter D'Souza also spoke on the occasion.
