Mangaluru, Jul 19: Incessant rains continued to lash Mangaluru city and other parts of Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday throwing normal life out of gear.
After a day-long break for rains in coastal district on Friday, a cloudy weather has engulfed the region for past two days. Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of the district in two days.
The heaviest rains came Saturday night and Sunday morning, and the long-spell that lasted much of afternoon, saw streets inundated across the city.
Mangaladevi Road in front of Pandeshwar, K.S. Rao Road in front of City Centre Mall, Hoige Bazaar road, Kottara chowki road among others were covered in a sheet of water, while flood waters entered several houses in Subhash Nagar area.
The national highway 17 was also hit with floods near Kotekar Beeri for some time on Sunday.
The incessant rains have also damaged several houses in the district in past two days. A fresh landslide was reported from Kolnadu village on the outskirts of the city. A stationary motorbike was buried when a heap of mud brick caved in on it. A house was also damaged due to mudslide at a hillock.
For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on July 19, four geographical regions received 9mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 9mm, a 2% surplus departure from weighted-average normal.
Karnataka for period from July 13 to July 19 recorded 34% deficit rainfall. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 63mm in south-interior, north-interior, malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 42mm.
