Bhatkal, January 28: Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen (AHM) has decided to open a separate engineering college for women in Bhatkal from the next academic year.
The Bhatkal based popular educational institution AHM in its recent administrative meeting has passed a resolution in this regard. This engineering college will be the first of its kind in Karnataka meant exclusively for women.
Bhatkal has an engineering college only for men. The new women's engineering college will have separate campus with women staff and separate laboratories.
AHM president S.M. Sayyed Khalilurrehman and Secretary Ahmad Jukajo said the college would be started from the next academic year.
Mr. Jukajo said the college would be opened at the Anjuman Degree College for women located near Shamshuddin Circle. AHM would try to appoint women staff. If they fail to get required staff, lectures would be delivered through live video-conference. Hostel facility would be provided for outstation students. Initially three courses such as Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, and Information Technology would be introduced. Later other courses would be added.
Mr. Khaleelurrehman said after inspecting several engineering colleges, he noticed that the number of girl students was more than boys and girls comprise 75 per cent of the total strength. This prompted them to open a separate engineering college for women.
