Syed Nasir Khurshid welcomed all the attendees and expressed his views with heavy heart and said, Congress party and India has lost a great leader, who was secular in his nature and character and was treating everyone with respect irrespective of his caste, creed and background.  Shri Ahmed Patel enjoyed a greater role and power in the Congress party, and he was a political advisor to the Sonia Gandhi for a longer time and he acquired this position on the merit basis. He gave a brief political career details of Shri Ahmed Bhai Patel, that Mr. Patel was first time elected to the Lok Sabah at the age of 26 years in the year 1977. While concluding his speech he said we have very prominent personality Mr. Saleem Khaleefa with us, vice chairman, Intellectual council of Gulbarga who is also a loyal congressman, affiliated with congress party from his student life, on the policies, program and secular characters of the party, let’s hear his views.

Saleem Khaleefa expressed his deep sorrow on the sudden demise of Ahmed Bhai Patel. He explained that Shri Ahmed Patel was a brilliant political leader he had acquired a lot of natural abilities to be called a progressive leader. He was a bridge between all congressmen and the High Command and had an ample respect in the eyes of Sonia Gandhi and all members of Congress Working Committee. He also had good friends in all political parties.

He was one of the most important pillars of the Congress party and was a very loyal and he was never a power monger. He refused to become a cabinet member in UPA I and UPA II, he was very keen to improve the organizational skills of the party and focused his whole life in strengthening the party across the India.  He was a very sensible leader and he got the titles of Chanakya and Sankat Mochak of the party and he proved his abilities on many difficult occasions and recently he played a Chanakya role when he convinced the Congress High Command to extend the support and form the government with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, in order to keep the BJP out of power. For me who can replace Ahmed bhai Patil in congress is our Karnataka Congress President Shri D.K. Sivakumar, who has showed his abilities of being a junior Chanakya, CWC should take a decision to give him more powers to take decisions for party at Central level. He was elected three times to Lok Sabah and 5 times to Rajya Sabah. He also served as the president of Pradesh Congress Committee of Gujarat. On his untimely demise, all political leaders, irrespective of their affiliation, including Prime Minister, Modiji expressed deep grief. He ended his speech by saying that, Congress has lost a great leader and it seems very difficult to find a replacement of Mr. Patel in the Congress party. Sonia Gandhi and former prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed their deep sorrow and grief on the demise of Ahmed bhai Patel. Both acknowledged that he was the most sincere and loyal leader of the congress party, both lost their best friend also.

Sajid Shaikh expressed his deep grief and said, he was an honest leader of the congress party, who always kept himself at low profile, who focused on work only and he was away from the limelight. He had very good relations with media persons and used to meet and greet with respect even to an ordinary person. For him Party was everything he always wanted to remain in the party organization hierarchy. He served party with different capacity for more than 45 years and got the title from the party presidents the most loyal and faithful congress leader in the recent history of the party. He worked with Smt. Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi with his topmost honesty and dedication.

He played a very significant role during UPAI & UPA II, he was one of the policy makers of the government during the Congress government at the center.

Other prominent members who attended this tribute meeting and paid their deep tribute to Mr. Patel, were Abdul Waheed, Syed Hazrath Khadri, Salim Khan, Mohammed Afsar, and Rayyan Khaleefa, while speaking they paid their gratitude, respect, affection and admiration to the departure soul. New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday released sketches of three individuals suspected to be involved in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 civilians were killed. The police have identified two of the suspects as Pakistani nationals and have announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for credible information leading to their arrest.

According to the notices made public by the Anantnag police, the suspects are: Hashim Musa alias Suleman, a citizen of Pakistan, Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai, also a citizen of Pakistan and Abdul Hussain Thokar, a resident of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir. All three are believed to be members of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The attack, which took place in Baisaran near Pahalgam on Tuesday, claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. It is one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in the region in recent years.

In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strongly worded statement today during a public address in Bihar. In his first remarks since the incident, PM Modi said, "India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India's resolve will not falter. Terrorism will not go unpunished."

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Modi, held an emergency meeting yesterday and announced a set of five retaliatory measures against Pakistan.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, briefing the media yesterday evening, announced that both Indian and Pakistani high commissions will reduce their staff strength from 55 to 30, effective from 1 May. Military, naval and air advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata and must leave within a week. India will similarly withdraw its advisors from Islamabad.

Pakistani nationals will no longer be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. All existing visas under this scheme are cancelled, and current holders must leave India within 48 hours. The only land border crossing between India and Pakistan is now shut. Pakistani citizens who crossed into India via Attari with valid permissions must return before 1 May.

India has also put the 1960 agreement in abeyance until Pakistan ceases support for terrorism.

Earlier today, a huge protest erupted outside the Pakistan High Commission in the national capital amid heightened tensions between Delhi and Islamabad over the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

Visuals from outside the Pakistan High Commission, located in Chanakyapuri, Delhi's diplomatic enclave, show a large crowd gathered outside the building, with police forces trying to pacify it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a landmark visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian prime minister in four decades to set foot in the port city of Jeddah.

The high-profile visit comes at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and signals a renewed chapter in the India-Saudi partnership.

During the prime minister's visit, Modi and the Crown Prince will co-chair the second meeting of the India-Saudi Strategic Partnership Council, a forum established during the prime minister’s 2019 visit to institutionalize deeper engagement between the two nations.

Six pacts ready to be signed — more may follow

According to high-level sources cited by news agency PTI, India and Saudi Arabia will ink at least six key memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during Modi's visit. These will cover vital sectors including space exploration, energy, healthcare, scientific research, culture, and advanced technology.

“Negotiations were still underway late Monday to finalise additional MoUs,” a senior official confirmed, adding that over a dozen agreements were on the table — some of which may be signed at the official level even if not during the PM’s presence.

Hajj quota, pilgrim support on the agenda

In his bilateral meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Modi will also raise issues related to Hajj, including India’s annual pilgrimage quota. Sources said that the prime minister aims to ensure smoother coordination and increased support for Indian pilgrims.

India’s Hajj quota for 2025 has grown to 175,025 from 136,020 in 2014, with arrangements already in place for 122,518 pilgrims. However, around 42,000 Indians are unlikely to make the journey this year due to delays by Combined Haj Group Operators in securing agreements.

Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, highlighted Jeddah’s dual importance — both as a historical trade hub with India and as the primary gateway to Mecca. “Hajj is a vital aspect of our bilateral ties, and the Indian government places immense importance on ensuring a seamless pilgrimage experience,” he said.

On Wednesday, the prime minister is also scheduled to visit a factory in Jeddah that employs a large number of Indian workers — a gesture underlining the critical role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral relations.

Notably, Modi was awarded Saudi Arabia’s highest civilian honour, the King Abdulaziz Sash, in 2016 — a testament to the deepening diplomatic and personal rapport between the leadership of both nations.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday visited the residence of 35-year-old Bharat Bhushan, in Mathikere, Bengaluru, who was shot dead in front of his family by terrorists in Pahalgam and paid his final respects.

Offering condolences on behalf of all Kannadigas to Bharat Bhushan, the Chief Minister said it is extremely unfortunate that a young, well-educated man like him became a victim of a terror strike.

He strongly condemned the attack as a barbaric and inhuman act.

To facilitate the safe return of Kannada-speaking individuals stranded in Kashmir and to bring back the mortal remains of the deceased, Labour Minister Santosh Lad and a team of officials were immediately dispatched. So far, 175 Kannadigas have been safely brought back to the state.

“It is the government’s duty to protect Kannadigas in difficult times,” the CM stated.

The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the Kannadigas who lost their lives in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, he added.

“It is the government’s responsibility to completely eradicate terrorism. Our government extends full support to the Centre in eliminating terrorist activities in the country,” CM Siddaramaiah said.

“Killing innocent people in broad daylight and in front of their families is a heinous crime. Similar to the past Pulwama and Balakot incidents, this is a recurrence. Intelligence failure at the Central level may have contributed to this incident as well,” he observed.

The Chief Minister has directed officials to make necessary arrangements for conducting the final rites of Manjunath Rao and Bharat Bhushan with police honours.

The victims from Karnataka include Bharat Bhushan, Manjunath Rao, and Madhusudan (who had settled in Bengaluru, hailing from Andhra Pradesh). Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy has met Bharat Bhushan’s family in Bengaluru, while Minister for Education Madhu Bangarappa met Manjunath Rao’s family in Shivamogga and assured them of support.

Regarding the terror attack in Kashmir, the Chief Minister said the Central government has already initiated certain measures, and the state government will extend complete support for further steps aimed at eliminating terrorism.

Bharat Bhushan had gone on a Kashmir trip with his wife, Dr Sujata, a paediatrician, and toddler son.

The family stated that the gang of terrorists approached him and asked his name. When Bharat told them his name without any fear. The terrorists then asked him to hand over his son to his wife, Sujata. Later, they had asked him whether he was a Hindu or a Muslim. When Bharat said he was a Hindu, he was shot dead.
