The UAE Public Prosecution has ordered the arrest of 10 people of different nationalities, including two Indians, over the alleged dissemination of misleading videos on social media, according to official statements.
Authorities said the arrests followed monitoring of digital platforms amid recent regional developments. The suspects have been referred for expedited trial, and investigations are under way.
According to the UAE Attorney-General, some of the accused shared videos showing air defence systems intercepting attacks, projectiles on the ground and crowds watching the incidents. Investigators also alleged that fabricated clips generated using artificial intelligence were circulated to falsely depict explosions, strikes on prominent landmarks or fires in parts of the UAE.
Officials said certain videos also used children’s reactions to suggest security threats, while others misrepresented incidents from outside the country as taking place within the UAE.
The Public Prosecution stated that the group comprised nationals from Egypt, the Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Nepal and two Indians, the latter identified as NRIs.
Authorities said the circulation of such material — whether authentic or fabricated — could affect public security, create confusion and be used by hostile media to undermine confidence in state institutions. The suspects have been remanded in custody pending further investigation.
Under UAE law, the deliberate spread of misinformation that threatens public security can carry a minimum one-year prison term and a fine of at least Dh100,000, officials said.
