Mangaluru, Feb 7: The Karnataka government has sanctioned ₹186 crore for implementing an underground electricity distribution system across Ullal city limits, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker and Mangaluru MLA U T Khader said on Saturday.
Addressing reporters at the Circuit House later in the day, Khader said the tender process would be completed shortly and construction would begin soon thereafter. The project is expected to be completed within two years.
He said the project would address long-standing civic issues, including high-tension power lines passing over houses and electric poles standing inside residential compounds. “The underground cabling system will permanently resolve these problems while also improving the city’s appearance and safety,” he said.
Khader added that the initiative would help transform Ullal into a model coastal city.
₹252 Crore Kotekar–Ullal Bridge Project
The government has already approved ₹252 crore for the construction of the Kotekar–Ullal connecting bridge, with tenders set to be floated soon, Khader said.
The proposed 1.5-kilometre-long bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity and boost tourism in the coastal belt.
“Except for national highways, very few regions have witnessed such a large bridge being built solely to connect villages,” he said.
In addition, a ₹6 crore tourism development project has been formulated for setting up hotels, restaurants, and boat jetties along the bridge corridor to promote tourism-related activities.
