Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has revised its luggage tariff with effect from February 16, 2026, increasing charges by up to 15% across travel stages.

In a circular issued by Managing Director Akram Pasha, the corporation cited rising diesel prices, staff costs and other operational expenses as the reason for the revision. The updated rates come into force immediately.

Officials noted that luggage fees are generally revised along with passenger fares. However, when ticket prices were increased in January 2025, baggage charges were not altered. “The last revision of the luggage fee schedule was in December 2021. Since it was not updated last year, the revised rates will now apply from February 16,” an official said. Passengers can continue to carry luggage up to 30 kg free of cost, beyond which the new rates will apply.

Stage-wise revised luggage charges

The updated fees, calculated according to travel stages, are as follows:

• Stages 1–5: Rs 6

• Stages 6–10: Rs 12

• Stages 11–15: Rs 20

• Stages 16–20: Rs 25

Charges rise progressively for longer distances, going up to Rs 145 for stages 156–160, as per the revised schedule.

The corporation expects the increase to help shore up revenue amid fluctuating fuel prices.

Items permitted

In addition to regular baggage, KSRTC allows certain household goods and small domestic animals — including appliances such as washing machines and pets — subject to space availability in the luggage compartment and payment of applicable charges.

Passengers and commercial parcel users have been advised to review the revised fare chart before booking or dispatching consignments. All depots and booking counters have been directed to implement the new rates strictly from February 16 onwards.
