Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has stepped up efforts to improve its revenue by launching a focused property tax collection campaign across the city. A campaign vehicle was recently flagged off as part of the initiative, and special drives will be conducted to recover pending dues.

MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik said property tax under the Self-Assessment Scheme (SAS) will be collected with a 3% increase for the 2025–26 financial year, in accordance with government orders. The annual hike is based on the 2023–24 market value guidelines, under which property tax is revised by 3% every year. The collection process this year is being carried out as per the directions of the administrator and Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV.

Appealing to citizens, the commissioner urged property owners to pay their taxes promptly each year. He emphasised that timely payment enables the civic body to undertake essential development works and improve infrastructure across Mangaluru.

To make the process easier, the MCC has enabled online payment facilities. Property owners can pay from home through the official online portal or visit Karnataka One centres instead of coming to the MCC office.

The commissioner also pointed out that several property owners have not cleared dues from previous years. The corporation plans to initiate drives to recover all outstanding amounts and warned that legal action may be taken against defaulters if payments are not made promptly.

According to officials, Mangaluru has around 2.2 lakh properties spread across 60 wards. The number changes periodically due to additions and deletions. To ensure accurate records and improve revenue collection, the corporation began a ward-wise survey in the first week of January to determine the exact number of properties in the city.
