Belthangady, Apr 11: Expressing several suspicions in the death of Bhagyashree who was charred to death when her house caught fire in Kukrabettu in Marodi village in Belthangady taluk, locals including family members of Bhagyashree have demanded a detailed probe in this regard.
According to her parents, her mother had left home after ensuring that Bhagyashree, a brilliant student, was engrossed in her studies. It is presumed that the mishap occurred within an hour after her mother's departure.
This, including the revelation that the front door had been locked from the outside, has given rise to the suspicion that the fire had been caused deliberately. Another aspect among the locals is the reason Bhagyashree did not attempt to escape the fire that engulfed the house although the back door was bolted from within. Moreover, the SIM card she had been using was missing from the phone which was discovered close to her body after the fire was doused.
All the above aspects combined have given way to a growing suspicion that the death of Bhagyashree was a deliberate attempt.
According to eyewitnesses who were present when the fire was completely doused, it was not possible for the fire to have caught onto the girl accidentally. It can be deduced from one look at the scene that the fire had not spread to all rooms and corners of the house. All this leads to the possible conclusion that the girl was a targeted victim of the fire which was presumed to have been sparked on purpose.
Also standing out in the mishap is the fact that no suicide or death note was found near the body or anywhere at the scene of the accident. Even a detailed search of her textbooks had revealed no note left behind by Bhagyashree. Moreover, the ones who knew her have strongly refuted that the girl would have committed suicide due to any reason.
Amid rising suspicions among the local villagers, the taluk unit of Yuva Vahini has already written to the home ministry through the Tahsildar to conduct a higher probe in the death of Bhagyashree to get to the bottom of the incident.
