Mangaluru, Apr 25: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday inaugurated the new building of Hira Women’s Composite Pre University College at Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that his government has been giving priority to the education of girls in the state.
He said that the Right Education Act passed by UPA government has been implemented across the state. Moreover each girl child is getting Rs 2 a day for attending Class 1 in Karnataka. This scheme intends to promote female education among poor families, he said.
Siddaramaiah also said that the State government was planning to extend the Bijapur Women’s University to all the districts in Karnataka.
He urged the private education institutions to be the centers of moral values. Commercialization of education should be prevented, he said.
Presiding over the programme, Health Minister U T Khader congratulated the management of Hira Woman’s College for successfully running the institution and providing education to large number of girls.
Ministers Abhayachandra Jain, Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLAs Mohiuddin Bava, J R Lobo, former police officer G A Bava, Unity Health Complex chairman Dr C P Habeeb Rahman were present among others.
After the inauguration programme, a seminar on “Modern Education and Human Values” was also held. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind secretary Aijaz Ahmed Aslam presided over. Writer Aravind Chokkadi spoke.
