Udupi, Jul 6: The district administration of Udupi has banned entry of tourists in all the beaches in the district till the end of August as part of precautionary measures during the rainy season.
The ban would apply to beaches at St Mary's Island, Padubidri, Kaup, Malpe, Kundapur-Kodi Light House, Trasi-Maravanthe and Baindoor-Someshwara (Ottinene).
The order by Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis pointed out an incident in a Dakshina Kannada beach wherein two youths from Tumakuru district were drowned while taking selfies ignoring warning from the local police and lifeguards.
The Dakshina Kannada district administration has already imposed ban on tourists in its beaches till August. This restriction will not apply to local fishermen.
In case the tourists do not follow the instructions of the lifeguards, police deputed at the beaches could book them under IPC Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant)
