Mangaluru, Dec 14: Friends and colleagues of poet-cum-photojournalist Ahmed Anwar, who passed away last Sunday after a prolonged illness paid rich tributes to the departed soul at a condolence meet in the city on Wednesday.

A number of aggrieved friends and former colleagues and family members of Anwar attended the event organised by the Muslim Lekhakara (MLS) Sangha at Raveendra Kalabhavana and shared their opinions.
Umar U H, president of MLS, said that the main preoccupation of Anwar was humanity. “He gave priority to humanity over literary geniosity.” said Mr Umar.
Admiring the commitment and dedication of Anwar, Mr Umar said that even though the former had been confined to his bed and lost his ability to hold a pen, he continued to write with the help of his wife.
Raheem Teekay, a noted Beary thinker and president of Kendra Beary Parishath, said that Anwar's demise has created a great void for many. He said that the society needs talents like Anwar.
M B Abdul Rehman, advocate and former president of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, recalled his two decade long friendship with Anwar.
Husain Katipalla, Rasheed Vitla, Sayeed Ismaeel, B A Mohammed Ali, Rafeeuddin Kudroli and N V Paulose were present among others.
55-year-old Anwar, who worked as the official photojournalist of coastaldigest.com for over four years, had been bedridden for last couple of years. His last anthology of poems in KannadaPayanigana Padyagalu' (poems of a traveller) is scheduled to be released on December 23.
Anwar, who began his career as a clothe merchant, was gradually attracted towards Kannada journalism and literature. His debut anthology of poems,Bharatha Geetha' was published in late 1990s.Gulmohor',Nanna Kanasina Bharata',Bevu Bella' are some of his other works. He is known asAbu Asma' among his Kannadiga fans.
He has bagged several awards includingMuslim Sahitya Prashasti',Attimabbe Prashasti' andSnahe Sathu Prashasti' for his contribution towards Kannada literature. In February 2015, Talent Research Foundation, M Friends and Team Ahlan had jointly organised the exhibition of rare photos captured by Anwar.
