Mangalore, Dec 26: Litterateurs, language lovers and students remembered Rashtrakavi GS Shivarudrappa, who passed on Monday, by offering musical tributes in the city on Tuesday.
Students of various institutes presented music concert reciting the poems written by GSS as a tribute to departed soul at the condolence meet held under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) at SDM College here.
Scholar BA Vivek Rai recalling his association with GSS, said that the poet is a role model for all Kannadigas. "I have learnt literary criticism from GSS, who has clarity and simplicity in his life and writings as well. I learnt discipline required for an institute and also how to build an institution. He was a scholar, who always upheld discipline, in life. He is a role model for all who know him," Rai said.
Litterateur Erya Lakshminarayana Alva said that the language has lost a great writer, who is also a towering personality. "His works are well appreciated and there were no rooms for hatred and competitions in it. His death is an inconsolable loss to all," he added.
KSP president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that singing GSS's lines is a suitable honour to the departed soul. "The poems of GSS have the capacity to nurture unity in people's minds. Hence, we decided to offer tribute to GSS in the form of music concert," he added.
MLC Capt Ganehs Karnik, Yakshagana exponent Prabhakar Joshi, writer Na Da Shetty, SDM College of Business Management principal D Devaraj, Radio Listeners Club president U Rama Rao and others offered floral tributes to GSS.
