Mangaluru, Oct 28: Low-cost airline SpiceJet is all set to start its much awaited daily flight service between this port city and Dubai from October 30. It is the second private airline to connect Mangaluru with the Middle East's dream city after Jet Airways.

Flight SG60 will operate at 3.40am on Monday and Saturday respectively and the airline will deploy its Boeing 737 fleet for the newly devised schedule. Dubai is one of SpiceJet's six international destinations.
With this launch, SpiceJet now serves non-stop flights to Dubai from 10 Indian cities including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Jaipur, Kochi, Pune and Mangaluru. The airline also has connections to Dubai from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, besides Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
Shilpa Bhatia, senior VP (Commercial), SpiceJet, said, "Being the port hub of Karnataka, Mangaluru offers immense potential for business travel. Dubai being key hub for Middle-East markets, a direct flight in place on the route will further boost economic activities besides offering a convenient travel option for both business and leisure travellers."
Increase in passengers
J.T. Radhakrishna, director, Mangaluru International Airport said that when the new flight services became operational the airport here would have eight daily flights with 16 operations in the international sector for different West Asian destinations. In addition, the airport now handled 15 daily domestic flights with 30 operations.
The director said that passenger movement at the airport has increased, especially in the morning. As many as 6 flights, three international and three domestic, depart between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m.
With this about 800 passengers depart daily. As a result passenger congestion is experienced in the security check area and terminal building. Hence the Airports Authority of India is appealing to passengers to reach the airport much in advance to clear security checks.
