
Mangalore, January 25: Three-day Beach Utsav was inaugurated on Friday at Panambur Beach, Mangalore, as a part of Karavali Utsav 2012-13.
Speaking after inaugurating the festival, N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, said that although Goa has a coastline of 120 kms, it has developed its beaches in an impressive manner and a similar effort needs to be made to develop the coastline of Karnataka so as to boost tourism here. “Identifying islands in and around coastal Karnataka and developing them into dolphin parks and bird parks could be a step in the right direction,” he opined adding that tourism projects in the district such as 3D planetarium at Pilikula, Golf Course, Aqua Marine Park and water sports at Bengre are in final tender stages.
Yathish Baikampady, CEO, Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, said that approximately 2.5 lakh people are expected to attend the Panambur Beach Festival.
Kites from Team Mangalore and others were on display. Several enthusiasts were seen trying their hand on kite flying.
Several stalls have been put up for the public. Entertainment and stage programmes will be held across all three days which will include dance and singing competitions.
N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, DK, K Dayananda, Additional Deputy Commissioner, DK, Amitha Kala, Deputy Mayor, were among the ones present.
