
Mangalore, Feb 17: Welcoming the announcement of urban local body polls by the State Election Commission (SEC), President of Karnataka Janata Party V Dhananjaya Kumar on Sunday announced the names of office- bearers of the party for Dakshina Kannada district.
Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said that the KJP had been officially recognised by the State Election Commission, which had been notified in the special gazette.
Announcing the names of office-bearers, he informed that K Ravindra Shetty would serve as Dakshina Kannada district KJP president, while Gokuldas Bhandarkar from Belthangady, Dr Lawrence D'Souza, Shivappa from Pachanady, Abdul Khader, Bhaskar Rao and Ashok Kumar Jain would serve as vice-presidents.
K Bhaskar Poojary, Aboobaker Kairangal and Guruchandra Hegde have been appointed as general secretaries of the district unit and Lakshmeesh D, Ramdas Acharya, Ravindra Uppattaya, Vittal Salian, Devaki Poojary and Shivashankara Kalladka are the secretaries. Srinivas Shetty Nariya has been appointed as the party unit's treasurer and Hameed Kandak as the media spokesperson of the district party unit. Kiran Shetty, Jyotika Jain and Hamid Kudroli will head the party's Youth wing, Women's wing and Minority wing respectively, he said, adding that the party would contest for polls independently in as many wards as possible.
He said that in the political system of Dakshina Kannada, few powerful forces were influencing and trying to implement a rule of autocracy in the district's administration.
“The political situation will change for the better in the coming days, and the party will strive to eliminate such Nazi forces. We are hopeful of winning at least around 40 per cent of seats in the state,” he said.
KJP state secretary Dinakar, Ramachandra Baikampady, K Ravindra Shetty and executive committee member Mariamma Thomas were present.
