
Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr. Punarooru said that Mr. Rai is a legend of Kannada literature who has tirelessly fought for the cause of Kannada and merger of Kasaragod with Karnataka but has not been given his due. The government must confer the title of 'Rashtrakavi' on him, Mr. Punarooru said.
An appeal has been submitted to the Government of Karnataka to set up 'Nadoja Dr. Kayyara Kinhanna Rai Prathisthana', besides setting up of a library comprising of all his works, re-publishing of all his works, setting up of a Chair in the name of Mr. Rai in Mangalore and Hampi Universities and constituting of an award in his name, Mr. Punarooru added.
