
Mangalore, Sep 14: Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that Vajpayee Arogyashree healthcare scheme would be extended to families Above Poverty Line in the coming days. He said every hospital in the state will have an'Arogya Mitra' counter to facilitate and ensure effective and hassle-free treatment of BPL and APL families under Vajpayee Arogyashree healthcare scheme.
Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Friday, he said that the Vajpayee Arogyashree scheme, which so far had only BPL families as beneficiaries for primary, secondary and tertiary treatment, will also include APL families for tertiary medical care. With this initiative, APL card holders can avail quality tertiary medical care for treatment of identified diseases including neo-natal care for new-borns, treatment for burns, cardiovascular diseases, cancer treatment, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, neurological diseases, renal diseases and poly-trauma cases, he said.
He also said that Vajpayee Arogyashree scheme would facilitate upto five members from each BPL family. The beneficiaries can avail medical treatment upto Rs 1.5 lakhs per year. The health department will also provide the additional amount of Rs 50,000 for the surgeries which will cost more than the amount given for the schemes, he said.
He said that the scheme would be extended even to accident cases. A total of 12 hospitals in the city have been registered under this scheme. A team of specialty hospitals have been formed to provide tertiary treatment for major and serious diseases, he said.
The hospitals which will provide tertiary treatment for beneficiaries are A J Hospital, Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Kasturba Hospital, Unity Health Complex and Yenepoya Specialty Hospital.
