Mangalore, March 17: Popular Kannada cinema actress Tara, who was BJP's star campaigner for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency bypoll, was made to wait outside the party office in the city for nearly half an hour on Saturday.

Tara, who wrapped up the poll campaign last evening in Udupi, was supposed to address a press conference at BJP office, here in the morning. However, when she reached the office on time, the door was locked.

“I took rest at a hotel in Mangalore last night after participating in the last day of public campaigning in Udupi. Our party workers may have been tired after engaging themselves in two-week long aggressive public campaign in adjacent constituency. I am not angry for making me wait”, Thara said while waiting outside the locked door along with a few media persons.

“The office bearers of BJP in city could not reach office on time because my press conference was fixed all of a sudden without any intimation”, said the humble actress.

Later, Deputy Mayor Amitha Kala and DK district unit president of BJP Mahila Morcha Asha Jagadish welcomed the talented actress.

Tara, who recently took over as the president of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA), said that she was very happy with her new position as she got the work of her fraternity.

“I am in the BJP Party for last five years. I admit that the political affiliation got me this position” she said.

She also mentioned that the new position given to her would not obstruct her film career. “I shall continue to act in very meaningful films”, she said.

She said that KCA should go hand in hand with the Kannada film industry besides doing various quality programmes.

The Karnataka government has announced that Nandini milk will become ₹4 costlier per litre starting April 1, 2025. This is the second price hike this year.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Karnataka Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna and Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh said the increase is meant to support dairy farmers by covering the rising costs of producing and processing milk.

Officials also said that:

>> The extra money from the price hike will go directly to the milk producers.

>> The earlier ₹2 price hike (announced on June 26, 2024) will be withdrawn.

>> The new price hike of ₹4 will apply to both 500 ml and 1-litre packets.
