Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 26: Life in twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi was not affected by the statewide strike call on Saturday.

However, hardly any KSRTC buses were seen on roads in the morning.
Numerous organizations across Karnataka have lent support to the bandh on Saturday called to press for implementation of the Kalasa-Banduri drinking water project.
However, in coastal Karnataka, which has recently witnessed a series of protests over controversial river diversion project, most of the organizations have decided not to take part in the dawn-to-dusk bandh.
DK district units of Kannada Katte and Karavali Kannada Rakshana Vedike are also supporting Saturday’s bandh.
Annaiah Kulal Ultur, president, Kannada Kattte, said that as the fight had not got any support from “others”, both the organisations would stay away from the bandh. In addition, no leaders from Bengaluru have contacted the leaders of the two organisations here seeking support, he said.
The bandh call did not affect normal life in Udupi district too. Krishna Anchan, President of the Udupi City Bus Owners Association, told Coastaldigest.com that the city buses are plying as usual as no protestors had approached the association.
K. Suresh Nayak, secretary of Canara Bus Owners Association, said that the service buses to Mangaluru and Karkala and other places and also the shuttle buses in Udupi district are runing as usual.
“No one including the workers unions has approached us on this bandh. So all private buses in the city, in the district and to Dakshina Kannada will function in the normal manner,” he said.
