Noted theatre actor Somashekar Rao dies aged 86

Bengaluru, Nov 3: Noted theatre personality, actor and writer H G Somashekar Rao died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday. He was 86 and is survived by his wife and two sons.

Family sources said that Mr Rao was rushed to hospital after he complained about chest pain last night, Doctors declared him dead.

Mr Rao, son of freedom fighter Harihar Gundu Rao and elder brother of veteran actor Dattanna, hailed from Chitradurga.

He was a retired assistant general manager, Canara Bank. He was instrumental in building the staff training college of Canara Bank.

He entered film land as a child artist and has acted in more than 200 films and appeared in over 300 plays in his illustrious career of 50 years. He also participated in the freedom movement.
