Udupi, Sep 15: Udupi Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad said that the murder of notorious history-sheeter Pitty Nagesh that took place last week at Udyavar in Udupi was an act of revenge for the murder of rowdy-sheeter Vinod Shettigar.
Briefing presspersons at a press conference here on Saturday, he said that associates of Vinod who was murdered in Hiriyadka sub-jail in 2011 were responsible for the murder of Pitty Nagesh. Five persons had been arrested in connection with the recent murder of Pitty Nagesh, he informed.
The accused are Ivan Richard alias Munna (33) from Santhekatte in Udupi taluk, Guruprasad Shetty (26) from Alevoor, Santhosh Poojary (32) from Byloor village Vishwanath Shetty (32) from Korangrapady and Zakir Hussain (25) from Kukkikatte.
Based on accurate information on the whereabouts of the accused, the five were arrested on Friday afternoon from a farm near Bolje Galikudru railway bridge in Udyavara, where they had been hiding.
The police team who raided the farm and arrested the accused seized two swords, a large knife and five mobile handsets during the raid. A Maruti 800 car with registration number KA 20 M 7493 and Ford Fiesta with registration number KA 20 B 6757 were also seized by the police.
The accused were produced before the court magistrate in Kundapur on Saturday and have been remanded to judicial custody till Monday.
Mr Prasad also said that Munna, who was working as an aide of Pitty Nagesh, had also joined hands with the enemies and conspired with them in murdering him.
A team of DCIB police led by police inspector Jaishankar along with Kaup police circle inspector Sunil Y Naik and Karkala assistant superintendent of police K Annamalai nabbed the five accused, as per the guidance of SP Rajendra Prasad and Additional SP Santosh Kumar.
