Puttur, Nov 21: Puttur Rural police have approached the Puttur court seeking custody of actor Vinod Alva, who is in judicial custody as an accused in connection with his involvement in a criminal case.
At present, the appeal for bail submitted by the counsel representing Vinod Alva will come up for hearing in District Fifth Additional Sessions Court in Puttur on Saturday. Meanwhile, Puttur police have also submitted a plea seeking the custody of the accused. In view of this, the plea seeking interim bail for the accused in a lower court has been withdrawn.
The police arrested the actor Vinod Alva from his residence situated in Kuthyala in Eshwara Mangala in Puttur taluk on Monday, after his former personal assistant Sachitananda lodged a complaint accusing the actor of attempting to murder him by ramming his moving bike with a Jeep.
After a day of judicial custody, the accused was again produced before Puttur JMFC court and remanded to 14 days of further judicial custody. At this juncture, the court rejected the plea submitted by Puttur Rural police seeking police custody of the accused.
The police have now submitted a fresh appeal seeking custody of the accused.
During this while, the Jeep allegedly used by the accused in an attempt to murder Sachitananda in Devaragunda, was recovered by the police on Wednesday. The driver Uday who was allegedly driving the Jeep during the attempt has been absconding and police are on the lookout for him.
It is learnt that the police have been collecting evidence and testimonies against the accused after questioning the servants working under him. The police believe that more hidden facts could be uncovered if the accused is kept under police custody, in connection with the ongoing investigation of criminal cases against Vinod Alva.
