Mangaluru, Jun 17: The Rajasthana Grameen Mela, an exclusive exhibition-cum-sale of handloom, handicraft, jewellery and painting exhibition, opened on Friday at Hotel Woodlands in Mangaluru.
Dr Ashajyothi Rai, Chairperson, Aasare Charitable Trust, Mangaluru, inaugurated the 10 day event.
“We want to keep alive the karigari' of Indian handicraft which is dying down in recent years. It is a part of rich Indian culture and it also showcases the Indian products across the world,” said Dinesh Sharma, Manager, of the Mela.
“Most of these artisans hail from below poverty line and our main aim is to provide a platform to these artisans and their talent,” he said.
There are more than 60 stalls showcasing the block print dress materials, suit, top, bed-sheets, sanganeri saree from Rajasthan, kantha work, paashmina, dhopian, baluchary, boutique, silk sarees from Kolkata, Tussara, Madka and silk sarees from Chattisgarh, Mangalagiri, Kalamkari dress materials, top, cotton soft dress material from Andhra Pradesh, Banaras, Zamadani, bed-sheet and cushion covers, silk sarees, dress materials from Uttar Pradesh, Chanderi, Maheshwari silk sarees, Bagh print cotton work from Madhya Pradesh, Tussara Silk Sarees, dress materials and Khadi silk from Bihar, Kutch Bandhini dress material cotton work, Patola and Rajkot silk, sarees and lot more products.
Along with the dress materials and sarees antique brass show pieces jewellery of different disegns various craft items across the nation have been exhibited at the Mela. The exhibition will be open June 26 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
