Udupi, Nov 9: Udupi district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has said that rapists and sexual offenders, especially those who abused minor girls, would be booked under the Goonda Act.

After discussing the issue of women's safety in the district with officials of various departments, efforts are being made to highlight and bring awareness among people and women in the wake of repeated incidents of rape coming to light across the state, said Mr Sorake, urging the support and cooperation of the society at large.
No politics in sensitive issues'
The minister said that the people should avoid speculation and misinterpretations in the Nandita death case until the medical reports and the CID investigation report were released and made known to the public. It is not right to politicise such a sensitive issue, he said.

Opposition leader Eshwarappa's statements are insignificant and uncivilized and hence, they should not be heeded. Being a leader of opposition in the legislative council, he should not make such statements, said Mr Sorake, advising to think twice before uttering such remarks.
He also condemned the accusation made on education minister Kimmane Ratnakar of shielding the culprits in Nandita death case by members of the BJP.
