Mangalore, Oct 25: The arts and crafts exhibition of'Poompuhar' a unit of Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, was inaugurated by Mayor of Mangalore Mahabala Marla at Woodlands Hotel in the city on Friday.
The exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts and hand crafted textiles, which is being held for the fourth time in Mangalore, will be held till November 3.
Several statues and figurines made of stone and bronze depicting Hindu deities, brass oil lamps, figures and panels in wooden carvings, Tanjore picture paintings and collectibles were prominently on display at the exhibition which also featured attractions such as precious and semi-precious stones, shaped and uncut birth stones, Hyderabad natural pearls, textiles, fashion jewellery and silver and gold plated jewellery.
Speaking on the occasion, manager of Poompuhar Manikantan said that the exhibition had been organised to provide marketing assistance to the artisans from Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country for their products.
He said that stalls by artisans from Odisha, Maharashtra, Punjab, Delhi and Tamil Nadu would be put up at the exhibition.
A huge attraction at the crafts mela was a statue of Lord Vishnu reclining on Shesha Naga made of pancha loha with an antique finish priced at Rs 50 lakhs.
