Mangaluru, Jan 7: Renowned Kannada-Tulu writer and researcher Dr Indira Hegde and well-known television and theatre artiste Vinni Fernandes have been selected for Veera Rani Abbakka Award and Rani Abbakka Award for the year 2015 respectively.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, president of the reception committee of Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava K Jayaram Shetty said that the awards would be presented at the valedictory ceremony of'Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava- 2015' to be held on January 24 and 25 at the B A Pre-university College premises at Thumbay. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present the awards to the recipients at the valedictory ceremony, he said, adding that the award consisted of a memento and Rs 20,000 in cash.
Hailing from Kinnigoli, Dr Indira Hegde has written several books including novels, short-stories collection and works of research on socio-cultural study of Bunt community. She has also received several awards in recognition of her contribution to literature and research, he said.
Vinni Fernandes has performed various roles in cine films, television serials and dramas in Konkani, Kannada, Tulu and Beary. Hailing from Kulshekhar, she has acted in acclaimed Kannada films such as Haseena, Nayi Neralu and Gulabi Talkies apart from several other movies, he said.
He said that the recipients for the awards were selected by the advisory committee chaired by Dr Amrutha Someshwara.
Working president of the committee Dinakar Ullal, general secretary Bhaskar Rai Kukkevalli, nodal officer Chandrahas Rai and others were present on the occasion.
