Udupi, Apr 22: In a tragic accident on the Kaup service road in Udupi district, an eight-year-old girl lost her life after a bus crashed into a scooter from behind near Sai Service Station on Wednesday.

The victim, Sathvi Shetty (8), was travelling with her father, Nithyananda Shetty, when the incident occurred. The duo were reportedly merging onto the national highway from the service road when a speeding bus rammed into their scooter, causing severe impact.

Sathvi suffered critical injuries in the collision and was rushed for medical attention, but she could not be saved.

The family, originally from the region, had been living in Dubai, where Nithyananda Shetty works. They had recently returned to Udupi to resettle, and in a heartbreaking turn of events, Sathvi’s school admission process at a private institution in Udupi had been completed earlier the same day after shifting her from a UAE school.

Sources said Nithyananda was scheduled to fly back to Dubai the next day. The accident occurred while he was returning home after attending to some work in Kaup, barely half a kilometre from their residence.

Nithyananda Shetty also sustained injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing treatment. Kaup police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
