Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence issued a warning of potential danger in the Eastern Province on Tuesday but declared the situation safe just minutes later.
The initial alert was issued through the kingdom’s national emergency early warning platform. However, the authorities did not disclose the nature of the potential threat or identify the specific areas covered by the warning.
A subsequent notification announced that the danger had passed in the Eastern Province.
The alert came amid rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi group. Earlier on Tuesday, the Houthis threatened to target the headquarters of Saudi state-owned oil giant Aramco in Dammam, the main airport in Riyadh and Aramco’s refinery in the Saudi capital.
The group said the threatened targets would be hit in response to any attack by the Saudi-led coalition on its positions in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
Saudi Arabia has experienced a series of attacks targeting airports and civilian infrastructure in recent days, amid an escalating military confrontation with the Houthis.
