Bengaluru, May 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday claimed that a “saffron surge” is emerging in Karnataka as he highlighted the BJP’s recent electoral gains across several states.

The Prime Minister was in Bengaluru to officially inaugurate the 45th anniversary celebrations of the Art of Living Foundation. Ahead of the event, he was felicitated by Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra and other party leaders.

Addressing a large gathering, Modi said the BJP’s electoral performance across the country reflected growing public confidence in the party.

“I have arrived in Bengaluru at a time when discussions about election results are taking place across the country. I can clearly see a saffron surge in Karnataka,” he said.

The Prime Minister pointed to the NDA retaining power in Puducherry for a second consecutive term and returning to office in Assam for a third term. He also highlighted BJP’s performance in West Bengal and Gujarat local body polls.

“In West Bengal, where we once had only three MLAs, BJP today has more than 200 legislators,” Modi said, crediting party workers for the expansion.

He further claimed that while people repeatedly give the BJP opportunities to govern, “anti-incumbency begins against Congress governments within six months.”

Referring to Kerala, Modi said BJP’s strength in the state Assembly had increased from one MLA to three and expressed confidence that the party would eventually secure a majority there as well.

The Prime Minister also launched a sharp attack on the Congress party over its political ties with the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

“For nearly three decades, Congress maintained a close relationship with the DMK and benefited politically from that alliance. But when political circumstances changed, Congress betrayed the very party that had supported it for years,” he alleged.

Claiming that Congress remains dependent on alliances for survival, Modi said the party was constantly searching for regional partners to stay politically relevant.
