Mangaluru, June 23: Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar, Qadhi of Dakshina Kannada, passed away on Tuesday morning at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He was 78.
The Qadhi had been undergoing treatment for illness for some time. However, despite medical efforts, he breathed his last on June 23.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters, and a large number of relatives, students, and well-wishers.
Twaqa Musliyar assumed office as the Qadhi of Dakshina Kannada in 2010. He served as the Qadhi for more than 200 Jama’ats across Dakshina Kannada and the neighbouring state of Kerala. He had also served as the Kasaragod district president of Samastha.
Arrangements have been made for the public to pay their last respects at Mangaluru Central Juma Masjid (Zeenath Baksh). According to the mosque’s General Secretary, Muhammad Hanif Haji, the venue for the burial will be decided after consultations with the late Qadhi’s family members.
The demise of Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar marks the end of an era in the religious and social life of the region. He was widely respected for his scholarship, leadership, and decades of service to the Muslim community. He was also known for promoting communal harmony.
