Kasaragod: A 15-year-old boy who fell into an uncovered well during an Onam celebration at Cheemeni in Kasaragod district died at a private hospital in Kannur on Friday, August 28.

The deceased has been identified as Sanoop (15), a native of Pullanjippara and resident of Anikkadi in Cheemeni village.

Sanoop had arrived at an Onam celebration at Chembrakanam in Cheemeni with his friends at around 8.45 pm on Thursday. During the programme, he went with his friends to relieve himself when he accidentally fell into an open well.

His friends raised the alarm, following which local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue him. However, they were unable to bring him out.

The Cheemeni Fire and Rescue Services personnel arrived at the scene and brought Sanoop out of the well. As his condition was critical, the rescue personnel administered CPR before shifting him to a private hospital in Cheruvathur.

He was later transferred to Aster MIMS Hospital in Kannur for further treatment, but died on Friday.

Sanoop is survived by his parents, Dhanesh and P M Savitha, and sister Sanusha. He was a Class X student at Mahakavi Kuttamath Smaraka High School, Thimiri, in Cheruvathur.
