Amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed state officials to prioritise the safety and evacuation of Kannadigas residing in affected Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, the UAE, Iran and Qatar.
In a post on X on Saturday, the Chief Minister said he had spoken to the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi and instructed him to coordinate immediate safety protocols and relief measures.
“I urge those stranded in the war-affected nations and unable to return home to move to safe locations,” he said.
Helpline to be launched
To assist anxious families and Kannadigas stranded abroad, the State government will launch a dedicated helpline on Sunday.
“The safety of every Kannadiga is our top priority,” Siddaramaiah said.
32 from Ballari stranded in Dubai
The Chief Minister also highlighted concerns regarding 32 individuals from Ballari who are currently stranded in Dubai following the suspension of air traffic across the region.
He said former minister B. Nagendra had brought the matter to the government’s attention, and officials have been instructed to closely monitor their situation and extend necessary assistance.
